Nihar Ranjan Gupta
The pen name 'Banbhatta' Nihar Ranjan Gupta born on 06.06.1911 Pen name 'Banabhatta' was an Indian Bengali writer. He was a very popular mystery storyteller as well as a doctor. We remember him in the subcontinent as the creator of the famous detective character Kiriti Roy. He dreamed of becoming an author from his childhood. At one point he went to Santiniketan and collected blessings and autographs of Rabindranath Tagore.
Childhood
Nihar Ranjan Gupta belong in Kabiraj family. He changed many schools in his early education due to the transferable job of his parents. He completed an I.S.C degree from krishnagar govt college and also Succeeded in medical science. After That, he went on to earn a master's degree in dermatology from London.
Career
He joined British Indian Army during world war ll and got to chance to visit different places in the world due to transfer to various locations. From Chattogram to missor he stored diverse experiences, which was reflected in his writing. Nihar Ranjan Gupta was written his first novel at the age of 18th and He fascinated by detective stories while in England. "Kalo bhromon" was the first detective novel written after the return to India. Kiriti Roy was added in this novel, which was Impeccable creation in Bengali literature. Later "Kiriti Roy was very famous In the Bengali readership. His writing drew attention to Bengali readership and almost unbeaten In the case of writing mystery stories in Bengali literature. Most of his novels are based on countries with subcontinental contexts.
Kiriti Roy Character is one of the Impeccable creations in his novel. More than 45 stories of his were picturized in Tollywood and Bollywood.
He passes away on 20 February 1986 but his writing style inspires us.
